Coaches
- Jenny Cherry:
Skating Director for Team Ashburn, Jenny has been skating since the age of 4 and teaching skating for 16 years. In that time, she has taught both group lessons and private lessons to tots, children, and adults. She teaches all disciplines of skating including freestyle, ice dancing, moves in the field, power skating, and synchronized skating. In addition, she has served as summer camp director at two rinks. This will be Jenny’s 10th year as a coach with Team Ashburn. Prior to working with us, she co-founded another local team and served as a head coach for 3 years. Jenny is a member of the Professional Skaters Association (PSA) and US Figure Skating (USFS). Jenny has a B.S. degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Education. She is a certified teacher who has taught grades 6-12 in both the public and private sector. Jenny is married with one daughter.
- Lynn Eisenhour: Lynn has been skating since the age of 5, competing at local, regional and sectional levels of skating. She has been coaching singles, groups, moves in the field and choreography for 18 years to all ages and all levels of figure skaters. Lynn has been coaching with Team Ashburn since the organizations inception. In addition, Lynn has served as summer camp director for The Ashburn Ice House and SkateNation Reston. She holds memberships with USFS, PSA and Ice Skating Institute. Lynn has a B.S. degree in Middle School Education with concentrations in Math, Science and Social Studies. She is a certified teacher and taught 6th grade with Fairfax County Public Schools for 7 years prior to the birth of her first child and has recently returned to teaching middle school students in Loudoun County. Lynn has three children ranging in age from 12 years to 5 years.
- Kerstin Magnuson: Kerstin, a Miami University Varsity letter winner, has had extensive experience representing the United States on the National and International Synchronized Skating Circuit. Kerstin brings 22 years of figure skating experience and 17 years of synchronized skating experience to her position. As a member of the Starlets Junior and Senior Teams she earned two Junior National Championships and a bronze and pewter medal in the senior division as well as various international placements. As a member of Miami University Varsity Synchronized Skating Team she assisted the team at Nationals with silver and bronze medals and an eight place finish at the ISU World Skating Championships.
- Lydia Paley Hume: Lydia grew up skating in Rockton, Illinois. She tested through her 6th Figure Test and Gold Dances, and later in life, completed several of the ISU Dance Tests. Her international coaching career spans 30+ years, from the National Sculpture Garden Ice Rink on the National Mall to Austria and Romania. She has had students medal at National Championships, at Junior Worlds, and competitions in Eastern and Western Europe. Upon returning to the US, she ran the Learn to Skate program at Reston, and coached skaters of all levels: beginner, advanced, child, adult, recreational and competitive. In 2003, she was elected to chair the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame, a position which entailed holding annual elections and producing on-ice induction ceremonies and receptions at the World Figure Skating Championships (2003 - 07). She also coaches a Theatre on Ice group.
- Sharon Brusie: Sharon has been a coach with Team Ashburn for the past 9 years. She teaches all levels of ice skating from tots to adults, freestyle, moves in the field, and power skating, group and private lessons. Sharon developed a love for Synchro at age 9, when she had her 1st team experience. She continued to skate on a Synchro team for 8 more years, 6 of which she served as team captain. While Sharon competed in Novice Ladies singles at the Regional level, Synchro gave her the opportunity to compete on the National and International stage. She is a member of PSA and USFS. Sharon has a B.A. degree in English Literature from VCU, and is married with 2 children.
- Brenda Hinkle: Brenda has been skating since the age of 9 and competed at the local level in singles as well as on a synchronized skating team in the New England area where she grew up. This is Brenda’s 4th year as a coach with Team Ashburn and she also teaches group and private students of all ages and levels. She has been teaching skating for more than 20 years and is a current member of the PSA and USFS. She has a B.S. degree Communications and is married with 3 children.
- Melissa Marshall:
Melissa teaches learn to skate classes and private lessons at the Ashburn Ice House, where she has been the summer camp director for five years. She is a Professional Skaters Association figure skating coach with over nine years experience in figure skating instruction. Melissa was a member of the Capitol Steps synchronized skating team for two years while attending high school. She graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design and from Savannah College of Art and Design with a Master’s degree in Photography. Melissa is currently pursuing graduate school at George Mason University for a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education for Diverse Learners and a Licensure Certificate for Pre-K – 3rd grades.
